Your Names:

Anita & Jacob O’Donnell

Wedding Date:

3rd of March, 2018

Proposal Story:

We met in year 10 of high school; we were friends and remained in contact even though we both moved away to study and work. In 2014, Jacob moved to France to be in the army. In 2016, he came home for a holiday and we started dating, and we’ve since dated on and off via long distance. Over these two years we’ve spent 60 days together in total, including our wedding! In 2017 while I was working in Greece, Jacob visited me for a few weeks. We did talk about getting married, but as Jacob’s current army contract didn’t finish until 2019, we thought it would be many years away. Last December Jacob found out he was getting a holiday in March so we decided to get married and then I would move to France. Jacob officially asked me to marry him and gave me a ring a few days before our wedding while we were in the car eating take out India food in the carpark of Kawana Shopping Centre – very romantic haha!

Why did you choose Beerwah Hideaway for your special day:

As far as weddings go, ours was pretty late notice and I was not sure if many venues would have vacancies on the dates when Jacob would be home. My parents and I had seen Beerwah Hideaway online and I loved the rainforest/forest style. I always wanted an outdoor ceremony with lots of shade for an afternoon wedding. By chance Beerwah Hideaway happened to have a weekend free and when I visited for the open day I fell in love with the grounds and rooms.

Describe your theme for the day:

I was going for a forest/bohemian theme, I don’t know if we achieved this but that was my original goal. Jacob and I didn’t have a bridal party but we decided on a burgundy, navy and white colour theme.

The bride’s highlight of the day:

I loved catching up with people and mingling during the canape time. I LOVED the flowers, they were my favourite thing about my outfit and they looked amazing in the reception room. The flowers were done by my Nana and cousin, Susan, at Exclusive Wedding Flowers Sunshine Coast.

The groom’s highlight of the day:

My highlight of the day was having fun with all our guests at the reception and listening to the speeches. I also enjoyed working with Amy our photographer, we were both super nervous about getting photos and she made it such a fun and relaxed experience.

Tips or words of wisdom for future brides/grooms-to-be:

When the day was over I wished I hadn’t stressed as much because honestly it all came together beautifully on the day. I think you just have to trust that it will all be lovely in the end.
